Un-Cabaret has been on hiatus for a few years. Permanent Hiatus.
But life is very surprising. Just when you stop looking for a room to do the show in, a room for the show appears. And not just a room, but the perfect room. And not just the perfect room but a room with symbolic significance. More on that in the next blog.
Some things about the New Un-Cabaret, aka Un-Cabaret 2012 - aka The Show - are the same. And some things have changed. Just like me.
One big change: The new venue. First and Hope. 80 people max. Very intimate. Right across from Disney Hall. Great sound, lights, comfortable chairs. An elegant restaurant to have dinner in before the show. And totally decent bar food and drinks during the show. Don't let downtown scare you. Parking lot right under restaurant. Only $8. Here's a map.
The same: Un-Cabaret friends are back and already telling the odd stories that we find ourselves living in this mystery filled world of 2012 on Earth.
In the frst two shows the stage has been graced by Un-Cabaret favorites:Margaret Cho, Laura Kightlinger, Mike McDonald, Merrill Markoe and Greg Fitzsimmons.
New: We're bringing in new to us original voices and some immediate favorites Moshe Kasher, Kelly Mantle and Miss Coco Peru.
New: Music! of course music ins't new. But live music at the Un-Cabaret is. Mitch Kaplan with whom I collaborated on the music for "100% Happy 88% of the Time" is co-priducing and musical directing. He's got our beloved Denise Delish Frasier on drums and we're bringing in eclictic music acts to spark up the emotions and channel the energy.
More on the new and the renewed in the coming weeks. But for now - really I mean it For Now! - I really am for now - lots of love and see you Sunday 1/29.
The line-up 1/29:
